Duurzaamheid

Bakery Stars and its affiliated members are committed to making their business processes more sustainable, with a strong focus on achieving the European sustainability goals for 2030.

The bakery sector plays a crucial role in food production and consumption, with a significant impact on the environment, economy, and society. With this in mind, we strive not only to achieve our own sustainability objectives but also to support our members in realizing their ambitions. Our ultimate goal is to significantly reduce their ecological footprint.

European Green Deal 2030

Aligned with the European Green Deal and the EU’s sustainability goals for 2030, Bakery Stars focuses on three key pillars: climate neutrality, a circular economy, and responsible sourcing. Our approach is built on innovation, education, and collaboration with our bakeries to develop sustainable business models that not only comply with regulations but also contribute to a future-proof bakery sector.

By implementing energy efficiency measures, reducing food waste, and promoting sustainable production processes, we aim to lower CO2 emissions and integrate more sustainable alternatives into daily bakery operations. We also take into account the social and economic impact, ensuring that the transition to a more sustainable business model remains financially viable for our bakeries.

Greenhouse Gas Protocol, Scopes

Together with our partners and customers, we are committed to fostering a healthy and responsible future for the bakery sector. We view the EU goals for 2030 not merely as obligations but as opportunities for growth, innovation, and a greener future.

To measure CO2 emissions and manage the ecological footprint in our business processes, we utilize the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. This protocol categorizes emissions into three scopes: Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3

Scope Description Examples
Scope 1 Direct emissionss from owned or controlled sources Combustion of fossil fuels (e.g., gas ovens), company-owned vehicles
Scope 2 Indirect emissions from purchased energy Purchased electricity, steam, heating, cooling
Scope 3 Other indirect emissions across the value chain Raw material production, transportation, waste processing, product usage, and disposal

Through transparent reporting, the progress of emissions across all sustainability goals is monitored, improved, and expressed as an impact score by our members. Additionally, we aim to meet the growing consumer demand for more sustainable products.
